The policy committee operated up until April 1986 (86/1). It became a sub-committee of the Staffing Committee in May 1986 and was renamed the Equal Opportunity and Affirmative Action Committee. Its role was to make recommendations on strategies, policy and procedures which would help to achieve the Council's equal opportunity aims. Membership consisted of the Director, Equal Opportunity Officer and staff and student representatives.
Following amalgamation in 1993, the committee became a sub-committee of the Monash Equal Opportunity Committee with the terms of reference: "to act as a forum for ... discussion of campus based issues relating to equal opportunity; to facilitate consultation with staff and students ... on equal opportunity matters; and to recommend to the Equal Opportunity Committee special strategies for the implementation of the Affirmative Action Program objectives necessary to meet local Gippsland conditions.
Following a review of the committee in 1995, the Equal Opportunity Gippsland Sub-Committee was established, its terms of reference further broadened to include - oversight of the implementation of and compliance with equal opportunity policies; and recommendations on appropriate action in relation to EO issues.
Gippsland Campus became part of Federation University in 2014.
