Subjects covered include appointment of Chairs, AUC Triennium submissions and affiliation agreements made between Monash and various hospitals. There is some information on the running of the department e.g. purchase of equipment, clinical teaching loads and staff problems.

The files are predominantly grey Roneo files, although there are some plain manila folders. The files were transferred to the archives at the end of 1984 by the Chairman of the Department of Surgery at the Alfred Hospital, Sir Edward Hughes, on his retirement.
