Series identifierMON34Series titleRecords related to the Louis Matheson Pipe OrganSeries descriptionIn 1973 a decision was made to provide the Robert Blackwood Hall with an appropriate organ for ceremonial occasions and concerts, to be named the Louis Matheson Pipe Organ, and an Organ Sub-Committee was established to determine specifications. During 1974 Council endorsed the organ project and took over responsibility for the organ appeal. Initially the organ was to be built by the retirement date of the Vice-Chancellor, Dr Louis Matheson and installed by mid 1977. The builder Jurgen Ahrend, commenced negotiations with the Robert Blackwood Hall Organ Committee in 1973 and finally built and installed the organ in February 1980.
This series includes inwards and outwards correspondence relating to the construction of the organ and includes financial documentation; copy of the contract; and the establishment of an organ appeal fund.
