Series identifierMON159Series titleInward correspondence registersSeries descriptionA series of volumes which record correspondence received by the university's central administration between 1962 and 1988. Entries are arranged chronologically ad information recorded includes date of correspondence, sender, subject and action taken. Correspondence from staff or students was attached to the appropriate personal file while other correspondence was attached to files in the alpha-numeric correspondence series. Prior to 1967 all correspondence was registered in a single volume. As the amount of correspondence increased separate volumes were introduced for the different areas concerned i.e. Vice-Chancellor, Registrar, staff students, buildings and cheques.
This registration system was introduced in May 1962 and was in use until the end of 1987 by which time control of the staff and correspondence series had been automated. The vice-Chancellor's mail continued to be manually recorded until June 1988. Separate registration of cheques began in 1974 (ref.
