Series identifierMON246Series titleRecords related to the Vallejo Gantner Memorial ScholarshipSeries descriptionThe Vallejo Gantner Memorial Scholarship was established in 1963 as a memorial to Vallejo Gantner a student of the Faculty of Arts in 1961 who died accidentally in 1962. Originally known as the Memorial Essay Prize, the award was made for an undergraduate essay on a subject relating to problems of the contemporary world, and was funded by an annual grant to the university. In 1967 the prize became known as the Vallejo Gantner Memorial Scholarship and was awarded by a Memorial Scholarship Committee, membership of which included Mrs Neilma Gantner. In 1970 the Vallejo Gantner Memorial Travel Fund was created to be awarded to second year undergraduates in the Faculties of Arts or Economics and Politics, and to be administered according to regulations under Statute 11.1.1 of the Monash University Act.
This series comprises correspondence between Mrs Gantner and officers of the university re the establishment and award of the scholarship; essays submitted in the early years of the prize; correspondence between Mrs Gantner and prize winners; and reports, forwarded to Mrs Gantner, on trips funded by the prize.
