It's name changed to the School of Visual Art in 1975. A review of all areas of Art and Design was carried out by Monash Academic Board prior to the merger of MUCG and Monash University in 1993 (ref report AB 8/92). The Gippsland school was merged with the Caulfield-based School of Art and Design (Faculty of Professional Studies) to became part of the new Sub-faculty of Art and Design, within the faculty of Arts. In 1996 the Sub-faculty was renamed Monash University College of Art and Design (CD3/96) and as part of that college, the Gippsland School renamed as the Theory and History of Art Unit. The college was given faculty status in 1997, and renamed as a faculty in 1998 (?)
Gippsland Campus became part of Federation University in 2014
